MCC Scores Late to Down Indian Hills

Ottumwa -- Marshalltown CC got a goal in the 70th minute to snap a 1-1 tie and the visiting Tigers then added two more goals to cement a 4-1 win over Indian Hills on the Warriors' home field on Wednesday afternoon.

An early second-half goal by Jose Andres Gonzalez (pictured above) had knotted the score for the Warriors. Andres Gonzalez converted on a breakaway, deking MCC goalkeeper Rafa Pereira and scoring into an open net. It was only the sixth goal given up by Marshalltown (12-0-1, 8-0-1) this season. Their goals against average (0.45) is second in the nation.

After the Indian Hills tying goal, the Warriors withstood a number of MCC scoring chances before the Tigers' Pedro Oliveira scored off a rebound to put Marshalltown back on top for good.

Goals by Alberto Morales and Sirleaf Wiah in the final six minutes added some insurance for the Tigers, ranked 7th in the latest NJCAA poll.

IHCC goalkeeper Ricardo Haro had four saves.

The Warriors (4-8, 3-6) will play their next two matches on the road, conference tests against Iowa Lakes this Saturday and Scott CC on Oct. 14, before playing their final three regular season contests at home.
