IHCC Drops Conference Opener

Ottumwa -- Iowa Western scored its first goal on a penalty kick just four minutes into the first half and that started the Reivers, ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, on the way to a 9-0 win over Indian Hills on Saturday.

The Warriors offense was completely shut down by Iowa Western, which outshot IHCC 32-0. IWCC scored four goals in the first half and then added to the lead with five more goals in the last half.

"I thought Iowa Western played well," said IHCC coach Jared Beauchamp, "but I don't think our guys came out and played at the level they are capable of. I don't know if the guys were nervous or what, but I think we're capable of putting up much more of a fight than we did."

Niv Fogel and Kobie Fraser each scored twice for the Reivers.

The game was the start of a challenging eight days for the Warriors who play at Marshalltown on Wednesday and then host Iowa Lakes on Saturday in a pair of conference contests.
