Ottumwa -- Two early goals by sophomore Richard Rugabisha set the tone and the Indian Hills Warriors escaped with a 3-2 win over Scott CC at the IHCC field on Wednesday.
Rugabisha scored twice in the opening half and the Warriors built a 3-0 lead in the second half. Scott tallied twice in the final 15 minutes, but Indian Hills hung on for their first win against a conference opponent and their second overall in seven matches.
Rugabisha got the scoring started with a goal off a perfect pass from Tom Johnson. Jonathan Silva connected with Rugabisha later in the opening half and Rugabisha headed in the goal to make it 2-0.
Sebastion Carrion notched his first goal of the season in the second half to up the lead to 3-0 and the Warriors were rolling.
However, Scott got on the scoreboard with a goal on a penalty kick and another score a short time later cut the IHCC advantage to a single goal. Scott was unable to get the equalizer, though, and the Warriors got the win.
Indian Hills faces a big test on Saturday when they play at top-ranked Iowa Western in Council Bluffs. Iowa Western suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday when they were blanked by Iowa Central 1-0.
