Ottumwa -- Marshalltown pulled away from a one-goal lead early in the second half and went on to defeat Indian Hills, 6-2, on Wednesday at the IHCC field.

MCC led 2-0 when the Warriors' Richard Rugabisha tallied IHCC's first goal in the 51st minute, off an assist from Guillermo Trejo, to cut the Tigers' lead in half.

The Tigers then regrouped to score three straight goals to build a 5-1 advantage. Both sides added a goal after that -- Indian Hills' coming from Gerald Valera in the 77th minute.

Warriors' goalkeeper Alex Alvarez had eight saves

IHCC coach Doug Seigle liked his team's effort in the second half and said as they become more consistent offensively their overall performance will improve.

The Warriors will have a busy weekend. They travel to Neosho, Mo., to take on Crowder College on Saturday, then return home to play Hesston (Kans.) on Sunday as part of a doubleheader with the IHCC women playing at 2:00 and the men at 4.
