Cole Dewey is set to enter his second season at the helm of the historic Indian Hills Men's Basketball program. Dewey was tapped as the 18th head coach in school history on May 3, 2024.
Dewey guided the Warriors to the program's 20th all-time trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Mens' Baketball Championship in his inaugural campaign. The Warriors boasted a 27-6 overall record, including the NJCAA Region 11 and NJCAA North Central District Championships. The Warriors were ranked in all 15 national polls on the year, including nine weeks inside the top-five. Indian Hills climbed as high as No. 2 in the NJCAA rankings. In one of the most competitive schedules in the nation, Dewey led the Warriors to six wins over nationally ranked teams, including a signature win over No. 3 Triton College (IL) in the regular season finale at the Hellyer Center. Following the conclusion of the year, Dewey was tapped as both the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Coach of the Year and the NJCAA North Central District Coach of the Year.
The Warriors garnered a number of impressive accolades during Dewey's first year back in Ottumwa. Abdoulaye Fall was tapped as an NJCAA First-Team All-American while earning ICCAC Player of the Year honors. In addition, Fall was recognized as a College Sports Communicator Academic (CSC) Second-Team Academic All-American. Sophomore William Beugre-Kassi was tapped as an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American in addition to NJCAA All-Region 11 First-Team honors. Freshman Mason Costello was tapped as a first-team NJCAA All-Academic selection, joined by fellow freshman Quinton Perkins II who earned NJCAA All-Academic Third-Team honors.
For his efforts with the Warriors, Dewey was selected to attend the Silver Waves Media Elite 75 Power Lunch in San Antonio, TX, one of the most prestigious events for college basketball coaches around the nation each year.
A former assistant coach at Indian Hills, Dewey returned to the sidelines at the Hellyer Center after a notable three-year stint as an assistant coach at NCAA DI Texas A&M University - Corpus Cristi. In three seasons with the Islanders, Dewey helped guide the program to three consecutive postseason berths, including back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. The Islanders captured two Southland Conference Championships while winning more than 21 games each season.
Dewey was a part of the Indian Hills staff from 2015-18, a run that led to a 91-11 overall record, three NJCAA Region 11 Championships, and three trips to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. Dewey's final season at Indian Hills, 2017-18, saw the Warriors climb to No. 1 in the national rankings.
Following his time with the Warriors, Dewey was named the head coach at Otero Junior College (CO) from 2018-20 where the Rattlers won 45 games and were ranked as high as No. 5 in the national polls.
Dewey followed up his time at Otero as the head coach of Garden City Community College from 2020-21, an institution where Dewey began his professional coaching career as an assistant in 2013-14.
In 13 seasons in the coaching ranks, Dewey has been a part of eight conference titles while coaching 48 all-conference selections. Under Dewey's guidance at the junior college level, more than 55 players have gone on to compete at the NCAA Division I level.
A native of Willow Spring, NC, Dewey received both a Master's and Bachelor's of Business Administration degree from Campbell University where he was a four-year member of the Camel basketball program.
Dewey and his wife, Kristina, have two children – Damian and Maia.
