Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Vladyslav Semerych (Horishni Plavni, Ukraine/Cherkassy) of the No. 2 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Semerych helped guide the Warriors to a pair of key non-conference wins last week to push the team's winning streak to 14 consecutive games. Indian Hills knocked off Mineral Area College (MO) 87-54 at the Hellyer Center before going on the road to defeat Sauk Valley Community College (IL) 92-67 in Dixon, IL. The Warriors, who jumped to No. 2 in this week's national poll, now boast a 26-2 overall record on the year.
Semerych played a key role on both ends of the court for the Warriors, averaging 7.5 points per game, shooting 71.4 percent from the floor while adding 7.0 rebounds per game. The sophomore forward added three blocked shots to his stat line for the Warriors.
Semerych shot a perfect clip from the field and the free throw line in the win over Mineral Area while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists. In the win over Sauk Valley, Semerych added seven more rebounds to go along with a steal and three blocked shots.
On the year, Semerych sports an ICCAC-best 61.9 field goal percentage while adding 6.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.
Semerych becomes the seventh different Warrior to earn ICCAC DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors this year.
Next up for the Warriors is the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season finale against Marshalltown Community College at 7:00 PM on February 24.
