Ottumwa, IA – Sawyer Mayhugh (Weston, MA/Queens) of the No. 7 ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad put together three dominant performances on the hardwood last week to earn Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors.
Mayhugh powered the Warriors to three wins by an average margin of victory of 28.3 points per game. In the three matchups, Mayhugh averaged 18.0 points per game while shooting 75.0 percent from the floor, including 42.9 percent from three-point range. The redshirt-freshman also averaged 8.7 rebounds per contest.
Mayhugh chipped in 10 points on 4-6 shooting to open the week with an 87-79 win over John Wood Community College (IL) at the Hellyer Center. The forward followed up with his first-career double-double, a 16-point, 14-rebound effort in a rout of Lake Region State College (ND), 125-67 on the opening night of the Norris Asphalt Classic.
Mayhugh closed out the week with a stellar showing vs. North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday night. Mayhugh poured in a season-best 28 points, including 20 in the opening half, while finishing the night 10-13 from the field. Mayhugh added eight rebounds in the win for the Warriors, handing NDSCS just its second loss of the season.
On the year, Mayhugh is averaging 10.8 points per game on 58.4 percent shooting from the floor while adding 5.3 rebounds per game for the Warriors.
The Warriors are back in action Wednesday night with a 7:00 PM matchup vs. McCook Community College (NE) at the Hellyer Center.
