Creston, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team earned an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) split with Southwestern Community College on the road Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors dropped game one, 7-4 before taking the nightcap, 14-8.
With the split, the Warriors move to 22-17 overall on the year and 6-4 in ICCAC action. The game two victory secured the regular season series vs. the Spartans as the Warriors have now taken five of six matchups with just two regular season contests between the two clubs remaining.
The two sides traded runs in the early goings of game one before the Spartans plated two runs in the sixth to pull away for a 7-3 advantage. Freshman Gage Perri (__) delivered an RBI double in the top of the seventh to pull the Warriors within striking distance, but the Spartans held on for the victory.
Perri finished the contest 2-4 at the plate with two doubles while fellow freshman Dryden Pidlisny (Medicine Hat, Alberta/South Central) tallied a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the second.
Game two saw Southwestern stake a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Warriors responded with five runs in the top half of the second. Pidlisny and sophomore Callum Donnelly (Bulli, Australia/New Mexico JC) provided run-scoring base hits to spark the offense.
The Warriors followed up with four more runs in the third to stretch the lead to 9-5 as Pidlisny delivered another RBI base hit while Jacob Pruitt (Bradford, Ontario/Bradford District) tacked on a two-run triple. PIdlisny continued to rake at the plate with a solo home run in the fifth.
Sophomore Diego Mendez (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) provided a lift late in the game with run-scoring base hits in both the sixth and seventh innings before Donnelly sent a solo shot over the center field wall for the final tally of the game.
The offense saw a number of impressive performances as Mendez finished the game with a career-high five hits while driving in a pair and scoring twice. Donnelly boasted a 4-5 effort at the dish with three RBI while Pidlisny went 3-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Freshman Ethan Martin (Milton, Ontario/Craig Kielburger Secondary) picked up the win with 4.1 innings of solid relief work before JD Moffett (Omaha, NE/Millard West) closed out the game with 2.2 innings of work.
The Warriors are back in action Wednesday afternoon with another ICCAC doubleheader. Indian Hills will host No. 8 ranked Iowa Western Community College at Pat Daugherty Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
