Council Bluffs, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball squad suffered a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) losses to No. 11 Iowa Western Community College on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors dropped game one 7-2 before falling in extra innings, 10-2 in the nightcap.
The Warriors drop to 20-14 overall on the year and 5-3 in league play. Indian Hills now sits in second place overall in the conference standings.
The Warriors fell behind early in the opening game as Iowa Western tacked on three runs in each of the first two frames. Indian Hills got on the board with a run in the third and another in the sixth, but the Reivers held off the Warriors the rest of the way.
Sophomore Diego Menez (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) paced the offense with two hits in the opener.
Iowa Western struck first once again in the nightcap with two runs in the first before Mendez delivered a run-scoring single in the second to put the Warriors on the board.
Trailing 5-2 heading into the fifth frame, the Warriors hung four runs in the top half of the inning to take a 6-5 lead. Sophomore Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth) sparked the offense with a two-run single while freshman Gage Perri (Andrews, TX/TCS Post Grad) added a run-scoring single followed by a sacrifice fly from Mendez to take the squad's first lead of the day.
Iowa Western answered back with a run in the home half of the fifth, but the bullpen efforts of Dylan Raines (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) and Connor Griess (Loveland, CO/Loveland) kept the Reivers off the board over the next four frames to force extra innings. Indian Hills threatened in the top of the 10th but were held scoreless. The Reivers delivered the walk-off hit, a two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th for the game-winner.
Perri and sophomore Callum Donnelly (Bulli, Australia/New Mexico JC) tallied a pair of hits each in the loss as the Warriors produced nine hits in total in the game two loss.
Raines tossed two frames in relief without allowing a hit while Griess worked 3.2 scoreless innings with no hits allowed.
The Warriors are back in action this weekend with a three-game series at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, IA. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon from the Wagner Complex.
