WARRIORS SWEEP SPARTANS, EXTEND WIN STREAK TO NINE

Creston, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team ran its winning streak to a season-high nine games on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Southwestern Community College. The Warriors dropped the Spartans 6-1 and 12-1 to remain unbeaten in league play this year.

The Warriors swept both ends of Thursday's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) doubleheader to make it four wins in three days over the Spartans. With the two wins, Indian Hills moves to 19-8 overall on the year and 4-0 in league play. The team's nine-game winning streak is the longest since the program won 11 straight in 2022.

Indian Hills used a pair of dominant pitching performances to bolster an all-around solid effort on the diamond Thursday. Sophomore Yuan-Kai Chang (Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei Dai) and freshman Maverick Scarpella (Thornton, CO/Broomfield) picked up the wins on the mound while the offense pounded out 15 hits. The Warriors surpassed double-digit runs in a single game for the 11th time this year in the nightcap.

The Warriors capped all four wins over the Spartans with a 36-12 scoring advantage. During the team's nine-game win streak, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 77-29.

Brody Geist (Arvada, CO/Standley Lake) and Charles Margulis (Boulder, CO/Boulder) powered the offense in game one with a pair of hits each. Geist tallied a run-scoring double while Margulis drove in two runs in the opener.

Chang was impressive once again on the mound for the Warriors as the sophomore tossed six consecutive scoreless frames to end the night for his sixth victory of the year. Chang, who struck out seven batters with just one walk on the night, is now tied for third in the nation this year with his six victories. The sophomore is also one of just four pitchers in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with at least 40 strikeouts and less than five walks on the year.

Sophomore Callum Donnelly (Bulli, Australia/New Mexico JC) proved to be the offensive catalyst in game two as the outfielder went 3-4 at the plate with a walk and two RBI. Donnelly has now hit safely in nine of the team's last 10 games this year. Even more impressive, Donnelly has found his way on base at least once in all 25 games he has appeared in this season.

Margulis tacked on another double in the game two win while freshman catcher Riku Kitagwa (Hokkaido, Japan/Osaka Toin) added a three-run double in the opening inning to put the game out of reach early.

Indian Hills is back in action Wednesday, April 1 with an ICCAC doubleheader against league foe Iowa Western Community College in Centerville, IA. First pitch from Pat Daugherty Field is set for 1:00 PM.
