Arkansas City, KS – The Indian Hills Baseball squad wrapped up its four-game weekend series with a doubleheader split at Cowley College (KS) on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors earned a game one win, 8-6, before dropping a tight 2-1 decision in the nightcap.
Coming off a split against the Tigers on Friday, the Warriors took one of two from Cowley on Saturday to earn the team's first series split in Arkansas City, KS over the last four meetings. Indian Hills outhit the Tigers 16-11 on the day thanks to a 10-hit performance in the opener, including four home runs.
The Warriors wasted no time jumping on the Tiger pitching staff in the opener as sophomores Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth) and Jose Lopez (Tas Tablas, Panama/Springfield Commonwealth) each delivered two-run home runs in the top half of the first inning. The Tigers cut into the deficit with a run in the bottom half, but solo home runs from freshman Gage Perri (Andrews, TX/TCS Post Grad) and sophomore Boris Rodriguez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) extended the lead to 6-1.
A run in the fourth and a Brody Geist (Arvada, CO/Standley Lake) RBI knock in the sixth put the Warriors ahead 8-4 to push the advantage. A late threat from the Tigers in the final frame came up short as Indian Hills walked away with the win.
Ramos finished the opener 3-3 at the plate with the home run and two doubles, the sophomore's fifth-career game with at least three hits. Ramos crossed the plate three times while driving in a pair.
Freshman Dylan Eshuis (Haarlem, Netherlands/Jan Arentsz Alkmaar) earned the win on the mound with 5.2 innings of work for the Warriors while sophomore Connor Griess (Loveland, CO/Loveland) earned the save in relief.
Cowley outdueled the Warriors in the series finale despite Indian Hills holding the Tigers to just three hits at the plate. Ramos helped drive in the game's first run in the third, but the Tigers punched back with two runs in the fourth as the Warriors managed just four baserunners over the final three frames.
Indian Hills has now hit 17 home runs through the team's first 12 games of the year, the most during the season-opening stretch since hitting 18 in the 2017 season.
Indian Hills is set to make its home debut Friday, March 6 as Des Moines Area Community College heads to historic Pat Daugherty Field for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
