FIGUEROA, NELSON LAND WEEKLY HONORS

Centerville, IA – Two Indian Hills Baseball players have earned weekly honors from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Freshmen Daniel Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) and Jack Nelson (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) have earned Athlete of the Week recognition.

The Warriors went 5-0 last week as both standout freshmen aided the Warriors along the way. The Warriors have now earned three Athlete of the Week honors after Jack Payne (San Antonio, TX/Clark) earned the recognition on March 8.

Figueroa has powered the Warrior offense throughout the duration of the 2022 season. The freshman appeared in four of the team's games last week, colleting a hit in each contest, going 8-14 with a pair of doubles along the way. Figueroa also collected nine RBI and nine runs scored while stealing five stolen bases.

Figueroa currently leads the Warriors in eight offensive categories, including a team-high .431 batting average and 14 stolen bases.

Nelson pitched a gem in a 10-0 conference win over Marshalltown on Saturday. The freshman southpaw pitched 5.2 innings while striking out a career-high 11 batters in the win. Nelson allowed just one hit and two walks to improve to 2-1 overall on the year.

In four starts this season, Nelson boasts a 3.07 earned run average with 25 strikeouts.

The Warriors, who swept Southeastern Community College on Tuesday afternoon, are now riding a nine-game winning streak and sit at 16-5 overall. Indian Hills returns to action this weekend with a four-game series at North Iowa Area Community College.
