Ottumwa, IA – In a pair of scoreless relief appearances, Jack Payne (San Antonio, TX/Clark) earned two wins last week to land the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor.
Payne was also awarded the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Baseball Athlete of the Week honors.
Payne played an integral role in both of the Warriors' wins over No. 6 nationally ranked Cowley College (KS) last week as Indian Hills earned a four-game series split with the Tigers. In the season opener, Payne tossed two scoreless innings, striking out three batters to keep Cowley at bay as Indian Hills pulled away to give Payne his first career win as a Warrior.
In the series finale on Saturday, Payne worked 2.2 innings of scoreless ball as Indian Hills took home a 14-9 victory over the Tigers. Payne allowed just one hit to go along with four strikeouts to improve to 2-0 overall on the year.
Indian Hills is back in action at Baton Rouge Community College for a four-game series. The series-opening doubleheader gets underway Thursday at 10:00 AM at Southeastern Louisiana University. The two sides will resume action on Saturday on the Baton Rouge campus.
