Centerville -- Former Indian Hills teammates Joel Booker and Christian Torres had their names called in the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, adding to the list of former Falcons drafted into professional baseball.
Booker, an outfielder, was taken in the 22nd round by the Chicago White Sox; Torres, a lefthanded pitcher, was selected in the 30th round by the Texas Rangers.
Booker and Torres up the total to six former Indian Hills players drafted in the past three MLB drafts with another ex-Falcon signing as a free agent.
After two standout seasons at Indian Hills, Booker finished his college career at the University of Iowa, where he was a Big Ten All-Conference first team choice this spring, leading the Hawkeyes into the championship game of the conference tournament. He hit .370 as a senior with 87 hits, 47 runs, 19 doubles, two triples and five homers while starting each one of the Hawkeyes' 56 games. He led Iowa in batting average, hits, runs, doubles, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, sacrifice flies and stolen bases.
Torres followed up his two stellar years at Indian Hills with a pair of solid seasons at Faulkner University in Alabama. He helped pitch Faulkner into the title game of the NAIA World Series earlier this month, the Eagles losing 12-11 to Lewis-Clark State in the championship game. Torres was a sparkling 11-2 in his senior season, tying for the team lead in victories. He compliled a 3.92 ERA and struck out 75 in 82 2/3 innings. The lefty made 15 starts for a team that wound up 53-15.
Torres was joined on Faulkner's team by another of his ex-teammates at IHCC -- Dario Polanco. Polanco was named to the All-World Series team at the NAIA tourney and hit .336 this year with six homers and 44 RBIs.
The trio of Booker, Torres and Polanco were 70-39 in their two seasons for the Falcons.
