Nelson Leads IHCC All-Region Baseball Picks

Centerville -- Dillon Nelson, an Indian Hills freshman outfielder from Omaha, Nebraska, has been named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference All-Region 1st team. In addition, IHCC has five players on the All-Region 2nd team. Pitchers Junior Ramirez and Trevor Kiminski, infielders Luis Gimenez and Olivier Basabe, and outfielder Wyatt Olson were the 2nd-team choices.

Nelson put together a solid freshman season, leading the Falcons in batting average with a .341 mark, tying for the lead in runs scored with 38 and topping the squad in on-base percentage at .433. He slammed four homers and knocked in 33 runs with 12 stolen bases.

Ramirez, a sophomore from Queens, New York, led the IHCC pitching staff in wins with six, ERA (2.97) and in innings pitched. The righthander compiled a 6-5 record, fanned 54 and allowed only 41 hits in his 60 2/3 innings.

Kiminski, another sophomore righthander, had a 4.07 ERA in 48 2/3 innings with 51 Ks and only 11 walks. The two-year regular in the starting rotation is from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

A freshman infielder who came to IHCC from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Gimenez had a .313 batting average and a team-high 17 stolen bases. He was caught stealing only twice. Gimenez slugged 13 doubles, a triple and one homer with 37 runs scored.

Basabe, a sophomore from Maracaibo, Venezuela, topped the Falcons in at-bats (186), hits (62), total bases (94) and walks (26) while hitting .333 with five home runs and 39 RBIs. He tied Nelson for the team lead in runs (38) and also provided 15 doubles and a triple.

Olson was the power guy in the IHCC lineup, leading the entire conference with his 11 homers, that included three in one game against Ellsworth, and his team-leading 46 RBIs. The sophomore native of Janesville, Wisconsin, had a team-best 16 doubles and .541 slugging percentage to go along with a .256 batting average.
