Ottumwa -- Nick Green, the Texas Rangers' 7th round draft pick in 2014 after a season at Indian Hills, made his first pitching appearance of the season with the Spokane Indians this week. Spokane is Texas' Class A Short Season team in the Northwest League and Green joined the squad after an extended spring training stint in Arizona.

The righthander started and went five innings against Hillsboro on Sunday, allowing only three hits and one run with a walk and two strikeouts.

Green made his minor league debut with the Rangers' club in the Arizona Rookie League in 2014, after an all-region season with the Indian Hills Falcons. He ended his first season in the pros with a 4-3 record and 3.83 ERA in 14 games, five of them starts. He fanned 32 in 42 innings and permitted only 29 hits.

Opting to attend Indian Hills despite being a 35th round draft choice of the New York Yankees, Green made signing with the Falcons look like a wise decision, parlaying a year in which he was 3-1 with a 2.97 ERA at Indian Hills into a big jump in the round in which he was drafted, from 35th to 7th.

His only season in Centerville included a seven-inning no-hitter against conference foe Marshalltown. The native of Fountain, Colorado, struck out 34 batters in 36 innings at IHCC.
