Neubeck Taken By Miami in MLB Draft

Centerville -- Travis Neubeck used an outstanding season at Indian Hills to get drafted in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. Neubeck, a right-handed pitcher, was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 7th round of the draft, the 206th player chosen.

Neubeck, from Hugo, Minnesota, was a first-team all-region player for the Falcons in 2015 after spending his freshman year at the Air Force Academy. He led the IHCC pitching staff in a number of categories, compiling a team-leading seven wins against two defeats with a 3.04 ERA. He paced the Falcons in starts with 12 and complete games with four, striking out 71 hitters in 69 innings pitched while allowing only 62 hits.

A couple of sterling performances against Marshalltown CC highlighted Neubeck's lone season with the Falcons. His last mound performance of the spring was a five-hit, nine-strikeout shutout of the Tigers in the Region 11 post-season tournament. In early April, the 6'2", 195-pound graduate of Hill-Murray High School fired a five-inning no-hitter against Marshalltown, facing only one batter over the minimum in a 14-0 win.

The 20-year old Neubeck was also used as a catcher and posted a .292 batting average with five homers and 17 RBIs.

He is the latest in a long list of former Indian Hills players to be taken in the MLB Draft. Last year, Nick Green and Jordan Piche, both pitchers, were drafted -- Green, like Neubeck, was selected in the 7th round; a third former IHCC standout, Mitch Osnowitz, who played first base for the Falcons, signed as a free-agent pitcher after the 2014 Draft.
