Centerville -- Mitch Langer, Paolo Montezuma and Travis Neubeck represent the Indian Hills baseball squad on the All-Region first team released by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. Langer, a first baseman, earned first-team honors as an infielder for the second year in a row, and Montezuma, the catcher on the first team, moves up from his second-team selection as a freshman.
IHCC also placed three players on both the second team and honorable mention lists. Pitcher Trevor Kiminski, infielder Joel Fuentes and outfielder Kyle Keck were all named to the second team while pitcher Bryce Collins, infielder Ben Reznicek and designated hitter Jake Lewis received honorable mention recognition.
Despite missing nearly 20 games becasue of injuries, Langer still topped the Falcons in batting average (.408), homers (8), RBIs (51), on-base percentage (.467) and slugging percentage (.733) while earning top honors in the region for the second consecutive season. Montezuma hit .325 with two home runs and 27 RBIs in his second straight all-region campaign. Neubeck led the IHCC pitching staff in a number of categories, compiling a team-leading seven wins against two losses with a 3.04 ERA. He was the staff leader in starts with 12 and complete games with four, striking out 69 in 71 innings, and allowing only 62 hits. His last mound performance was one of his best -- a five-hit shutout of Marshalltown in the Region 11 tournament last weekend, when he struck out nine.
All three Indian Hills first-team all-region choices are sophomores as are Fuentes, Keck, Reznicek and Lewis.
Kiminski posted a 5-2 record with a 4.13 ERA. He fanned 51 in 48 innings. Fuentes, the regular shortstop in 2015, batted .324 and was the team-leader in games (56), at-bats (185), runs scored (56), hits (60), doubles (18) and stolen bases (16). Keck, an Ottumwa High School graduate, took advantage of increased playing time as a sophomore to record a .333 batting average with 14 doubles, two triples and 11 steals.
Like Neubeck, Collins' last start of the season, in the region tourney, was a very good one. He went eight innings and got the victory against Muscatine, permitting seven hits and two earned runs with no walks and eight strikeouts. For the season, he was 3-4 with a 4.39 ERA, punching out 45 hitters in 53 innings. Reznicek claimed the starting second base job about midway through the season. He teamed with Fuentes to give the Falcons two solid sophs in the middle infield. Reznicek hit .309 with a .406 on-base percentage. He scored 44 runs, second on the team, and drove in 22. Lewis joins Langer and Montezuma as two-time all-region picks. The left-handed hitter had a .326 batting average with a pair of homers and 28 RBIs. He was second-team all-region as a freshman.
