Falcons Split Four with Muscatine

Centerville -- Indian Hills bounced back from a 12-1 loss in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader to defeat Muscatine, 7-5, in the nightcap and earn a split in the weekend conference series.

Mitch Langer's 2nd home run of the series and his team-leading 8th of the season was part of a six-run 2nd inning for the Falcons, who overcame an early 3-1 MCC lead to take the finale of the four-game set.

The big 2nd inning backed the pitching of Trevor Kiminski and Mike Levar and give the Falcons their 22nd win. Kiminski went the first 5 2/3 innings and got the win and Levar picked up a save by getting the final four outs.

IHCC only had six hits but made the most of them with Langer driving in four runs and Joel Fuentes scoring twice. Ben Reznicek and Langer each had a pair of hits.

Langer also homered in the opening game of the series on Saturday, but the Falcons had to feel like they let one get away. They took a 2-0 lead into the top of the 6th and starter Bryce Collins had cruised through the first five innings, pitching shutout baseball. But Muscatine tied the score with a two-run homer and another two-run shot, off reliever Cody Hinson in the top of the 8th, proved to be the game-winner.

A solo blast by Langer cut the MCC lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the inning and a walk to Paolo Montezuma put the tying run on base, but the next two hitters were retired and Muscatine posted the win.

Levar accounted for the first two runs for the Falcons with a two-run homer in the 2nd inning. Jake Lewis had a two-hit game for IHCC.

Indian Hills came back to win 8-1 in the second game, getting doubles from Reznicek, Austin Irvin and Ryan Shull and triples by Fuentes and Irvin as part of a 13-hit attack.

Irvin went 3-for-3 and knocked in two runs and Shull was 2-for-3 and scored two. Reznicek had three hits and Fuentes and Langer two apiece.

The win went to Travis Neubeck who allowed only six hits and one run in the first six frames. Michael Starcevich finished with a scoreless 7th inning.

Muscatine jumped all over IHCC pitching in Sunday's opener, pounding out 14 hits and scoring 12 times in a 12-1 rout. IHCC only managed four hits with Fuentes driving in their lone run.

The weekend results leave the Falcons with a 22-16 overall record and an 8-4 mark in the conference.
