Falcons Stop Iowa Central

Centerville -- The Indian Hills Falcons overcame an early 4-0 deficit, using timely hitting and a strong relief effort from Bryce Collins to defeat Iowa Central, 6-4, in a non-conference game at Pat Daugherty Field on Tuesday.

After spotting the visitors the 4-0 advantage after a half inning, IHCC hurlers Jacob Bruget, Collins and Michael Starcevich shut out the Tritons over the final eight innings. Collins rescued Bruget with one out in the 2nd and gave up five hits in 5 2/3 shutout innings. He didn't walk anyone and struck out four. Starcevich notched the save with two shutout frames of his own.

IHCC started to dig out of the early hole with a run in the 3rd and two in the 4th. Joel Fuentes had a one-out double and came home on Jake Lewis' RBI groundout for the first Falcon run.

In the 4th, Ben Reznicek tripled home Justin Chalupa and then scored on Kyle Keck's double. It was one of three hits for Keck.

The Falcons went ahead in the 7th with a pair of runs. Paolo Montezuma and Hiroki Yamaguchi each had a run-scoring double, with Yamaguchi's pinch-hit two-bagger putting IHCC on top.

An insurance run was tacked on in the 8th when Ryan Shull walked and later scored on Lewis' sacrifice fly.

Mitch Langer and Montezuma each had two hits and Lewis had the two runs-batted-in.

The win pushes Indian Hills above .500 with a 13-12 record. The Falcons will host Ellsworth CC in another non-conference tilt on Wednesday.
