Falcons Erupt to Down Ridgewater

Centerville -- The Indian Hills Falcons returned to action in a big way, using solid pitching and plenty of offense to take three straight games from Ridgewater College. Indian Hills walloped the visitors, 21-2, in the first game of the series, and then swept a doubleheader the following day, winning by scores of 7-0 and 6-1.

IHCC pounded out 16 hits in the opening game on Thursday, a three-run homer by Austin Irvin capping a six-run 1st inning, and then tallying six more runs in the 8th. Falcons' pitchers Travis Neubeck and Jordan Magers combined to allow only four hits and one earned run.

Neubeck struck out seven in his 7 2/3 innings of work and Magers got the final four outs, two of them strikeouts.

The Falcons' big opening inning included four walks and a hit batsman before Irvin homer to right-center field plated three runs. Joel Fuentes doubled home a run in the 2nd and Mitch Langer slammed the first of his two two-run homers in the 4th.

Jake Lewis had a run-scoring single and Enrique Basabe a two-RBI double in a four-run 5th. Langer connected for his second homer following a Paolo Montezuma single in the 6th.

Lewis and Mike Levar had consecutive RBI singles in the 8th and Justin Chalupa and Irvin both walked with the bases loaded before Joe Sullivan ended the onslaught with a run-scoring groundout.

The Falcons made the most of their seven hits in the 7-0 win in game one on Friday. Langer drove in three runs with a couple of grounders and a single. Neubeck contributed an RBI single and Hiroki Yamaguchi also delivered a run-scoring single. Levar had a sacrifice fly.

Trevor Kiminski and Michael Starcevich had the combined shutout. Kiminski permitted two hits and struck out five in five innings. Starcevich fanned five in his two innings of relief.

David Kroger, Levar and Cody Hinson shared the pitching duties in the Friday nightcap. They scattered five singles and an unearned run.

Lewis got the offense going with a two-run single in the 1st, driving in Fuentes, who had singled, and Montezuma, who had reached on a double.

Langer picked up his eighth RBI of the series in the 3rd when the Falcons scored twice. Montezuma's RBI triple helped end the IHCC scoring in the bottom of the 6th.
