Win Streak to Seven for IHCC Baseball

Centerville -- Indian Hills tuned up for this weekend's big four-game series with Iowa Western by walloping Southwestern CC, 13-0, at Pat Daugherty Field on Wednesday.

The Falcons jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one inning and rolled to their 33rd win of the season, eclipsing last year's win total of 32.

Wasting no time in the bottom of the 1st, Caleb Ratzman had a leadoff single and stole 2nd. Joel Booker walked and he and Ratzman executed a double steal to set up number-three hitter Junior Santos for a two-run single. After Dario Polanco singled, Jake Lewis drove in a run with a groundout and another run scored on an error. The Falcons swiped four bases in the inning.

Two more runs came home in the 2nd on an RBI double by Paolo Montezuma and a sacrifice fly by Mike Levar. Edgar Lebron singled and scored in the 3rd.

In the 4th, the Falcons put four additional runs on the board. Joel Booker had a sac fly and then Montezuma walked and Polanco was hit by a pitch, both with the bases loaded.

The Falcons were hitless over their final two at-bats, but had more than enough runs by then.

Four pitchers teamed up to shut out the Spartans. Starter Pedro Genao gave up the only two hits, but fanned four. Joelfi Arias, Jesse Anderson and Jose Marin followed on the mound.

Indian Hills will take a 33-12 record into the four-game set with Iowa Western. The series has been moved up to Friday and Saturday, two games each day, with the forecast calling for a good chance of rain on Sunday. The Falcons and IWCC are both 13-3 in the conference.
