IHCC Gets Pair of Victories

Ottumwa -- With Pat Daugherty Field in Centerville still not quite ready for baseball, Indian Hills moved the weekend series with Ridgewater CC to Legion Field in Ottumwa. And the Falcons opened the four-game set with a couple of wins, taking the first game 10-5 and the second 2-1 to run their current winning streak to seven and move the season record to 16-8.

The Falcons knocked out 11 hits in the opener and used four pitchers to hold down the Warriors in the second game.

Cody Hinson was outstanding in a relief role in game one, allowing only one baserunner over the final three innings with six Ks. He replaced starter Aaron Doughty who permitted five hits and fiver runs and struck out four in four innings.

Joel Booker and Mitch Langer each had three singles for the Falcons, Luis Estevez had two and Paulo Montezuma collected a pair of doubles. Montezuma was on base all four times he batted and scored four runs. Langer and Junior Santos scored two each and Estevez had three RBIs and Langer and Montezuma two apiece.

Indian Hills broke a 5-5 tie with four runs in the bottom of the 4th. Langer's single brought home Santos with the go-ahead run. Montezuma plated two with a double and Estevez drove in Montezuma with a single.

Game two was a pitcher's duel. The Falcons had their only two runs after the first four batters of the game and were held to two singles the rest of the way. Lebron led off with a walk and eventually scored on Santos's single. Montezuma's sacrifice fly drove in Kyle Keck.

Singles by Jose Valdez and Caleb Ratzman were the only hits after the 1st.

IHCC starting pitcher Jesse Anderson did an excellent job, giving up only one hit and no runs in the first four innings with five strikeouts. Pedro Genao, Joelfi Arias and Jose Marin followed Anderson to the hill. They combined to allow two hits and one run in three innings.

Cold temperatures wiped out the final two games of the series on Sunday. The Falcons will return to action this week at home against Iowa Central CC.
