Creston, Iowa -- The IHCC Falcons ran their winning streak to five with a pair of wins over Southwestern CC on Thursday. Paulo Montezuma homered in both games and the Falcons won 8-5 and 16-1 to improve their record to 14-8.
Montezuma, the IHCC catcher, had a two-run HR in the opener and a three-run shot in the nightcap.
Caleb Ratzman's single started a three-run 1st in game one. Mike Levar walked with the bases loaded and Mitch Langer drove in a run with a single.
Joel Booker had a sacrifice fly and Dario Polanco an RBI-double in the second and Montezuma's homer followed a single by Jose Valdez. The Falcons were shut out after the round-tripper, which gave them an 8-0 lead.
Southwestern tallied two in the 3rd and three in the 4th, but Jose Marin threw three shutout innings in relief to preserve the win. Marin gave up four hits and no walks and fanned four in his relief outing.
Levar and Langer had two-hit games and Ratzman and Polanco each scored twice.
The Falcons scored in every inning but the 3rd in the second game and pounded out 12 hits. They scored four in the 1st, five in the 4th and six in the 6th, half of them on Montezuma's HR.
Lebron and Booker, at the top of the order, scored three runs and Polanco, Joel Fuentes and Montezuma two apiece.
Booker had three doubles, and Santos, Fuentes and Keck each had two hits.
Starter Alsis Herrera struck out eight batters in 4 1/3 innings and got the win. Joelfi Arias and Daniel Rivera finished up with 1 2/3 hitless innings and three Ks.
Indian Hills is scheduled to host Ridgewater CC in a four-game series this weekend.
