Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Cindy Rose (Brown's Town, Jamaica/Holmwood Technical) of the Indian Hills Women's Track & Field squad and sophomore Taj Au-Duke (Toronto, Canada/Pepperdine) of the Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad have been named the Indian Hills Hy-Vee Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of February.
Rose continued to flourish during her freshman campaign for the Warrior running squads. During the indoor season, Rose has set three school records – 600-yard run (1:22.72), 800-meter run (2:09.67), and 1,000-meter run (2:56.50) and ranks second in two separate categories – 600-meter run (1:35.08) and the mile (5:13.33).
Rose was named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week for the week of February 2-8, having now earned the weekly honor three times this season. Rose currently ranks No. 1 in the nation with her mark in the 800m run.
For her efforts in the classroom, Rose was named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region squad following the fall term.
Au-Duke has powered the men's basketball squad to a No. 2 national ranking, its highest spot in the polls this year. Au-Duke, who leads the squad with 12.8 points per game this season, led the Warriors to a 6-0 record in February, scoring in double-figures five times while averaging 6.7 assists per contest. The Warriors also captured the regular season ICCAC crown with an undefeated conference record.
Au-Duke has filled the stat sheet throughout the year for the Warriors, averaging 5.1 assists/game to go along with 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals per contest. The sophomore floor general is also shooting 81.0 percent from the free throw line.
For his work in the classroom, Au-Duke was named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region squad following the fall term.
Each month, with the support of the local Ottumwa Hy-Vee, the Indian Hills Athletic Department selects a male and female student-athlete of the month based on their academic and athletic performances throughout the previous month.
