Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Athletic Department set a new academic standard with a record 83 selections to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic Team, announced by the national office Thursday.
14 Indian Hills Athletic programs were represented across the three NJCAA All-Academic teams, led by 26 members of the Indian Hills Baseball squad. The softball team added 15 recipients while the men's soccer team earned 10 selections.
To earn NJCAA All-Academic honors, individual student-athletes are awarded first-team status with a 4.0 GPA throughout the academic year. Second-team honorees consist of student-athletes with a GPA of 3.80 to 3.99, while third-team recipients posted a GPA of 3.60-3.79.
The 83 student-athletes selected surpass the 2022-23 academic year that saw 63 individuals earn NJCAA All-Academic honors.
A record 27 student-athletes were named to the first-team, including 15 freshman. A pair of sophomores - Larissa Scatamburlo (volleyball) and Lou Levy (baseball) were named to the first-team for the second consecutive year, completing a two-year career at Indian Hills with a cumulative 4.0 GPA.
In total, 16 individuals repeated on the NJCAA All-Academic team from a year ago. Throughout the 2023-24 campaign, five individuals were named NJCAA All-Americans for their athletic success while earning a spot on the NJCAA All-Academic team - Jose Carletta (men's golf), Ales Kohoutek (men's soccer), Michael Blank (men's track & field), Eliana Bommarito (women's wrestling), and Angelica Vicente (women's wrestling).
