Now in his second year as a member of the IHCC basketball program, Nate Schmidt arrived at Indian Hills as an assistant prior to the start of the 2017-18 campaign. He was a key part of the staff that guided the Warriors to a 33-1 season and a national tournament berth.
Schmidt came to Indian Hills from Gulf Coast State College in Florida where he was an assistant. Before his stint with Gulf Coast, Schmidt was at Iowa State University for three seasons, serving as the Coordinator of Player Development on Steve Prohm’s ISU staff his final season. The Cyclones had very successful years while Schmidt was involved with the program, including a 24-11 record and second-place tie in the Big 12 standings in 2016-17.
An Ypsilanti, Michigan, native, Schmidt joined the Iowa State staff after serving as an assistant coach at Romulus High School in Romulus, Michigan. Romulus claimed the Class A state title in 2013 with Schmidt on the sidelines. He also acted as an assistant coach with the All Michigan Basketball Club AAU program.
Schmidt is a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where he earned a degree in economics in 2014. He played one season of basketball for the Big Reds. Schmidt has a master’s degree in educational leadership and policies from Iowa State.
