Marion, Iowa -- Indian Hills was four shots out of first place after the first day of the Klocke Family Classic, could only make up half the deficit over the final 18 holes and had to settle for a runnerup finish in their first meet of the fall schedule. The Warriors wound up with a 581 total for 36 holes, two strokes behind Iowa Western CC.
The Warriors were led by George Clarke, one of the returning players from last year's national championship squad. Clarke had consecutive under-par rounds of 71 and 70 over the par-72 Hunters Ridge Golf Course and finished in a tie for 4th place with his 141 total.
Teammate Ethan Keane (pictured) fired the best round of the meet for the Warriors, a three-under 69 on Saturday, and followed with a 75 to gain a tie for 7th at 144.
Joe Hodgson carded a one-under 71 in the final round to shoot 145 and tie for 9th. Maxime LeClerc, like Hodgson a returner from the 2018 title team, had scores of 75 and 72 for a 147 and a tie for 12th place.
A couple of newcomers, Harry Doig and Jesse MacNaughton, completed the IHCC results. Doig shot 74 and 76 for a tie for 21st; MacNaughton posted a 73 and a 79 to tie for 26th.
Indian Hills edged tournament host Mount Mercy University for 2nd place, beating MMU by a single shot.
IHCC will host The Warrior Challenge at the Preserve at Lake Rathbun Sept. 17-18. They'll play in four meets this fall, capped by the District Preview in Council Bluffs Oct. 8-9.
