The Indian Hills Community College athletic department has recognized sophomore Akean Shackleford (men’s soccer) and freshman Traci Ervin (women’s cross country) as October’s student-athletes of the month. This accolade honors student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding work in their respective sport and in the classroom.
Shackleford, a sophomore from Savannahlamar, Jamaica, has turned into a household name on the Indian Hills campus and throughout NJCAA soccer. The soccer standout is currently second in the nation in goals (30), helping the men’s soccer squad reach their highest national ranking in program history (5th place in the 10/10/17 poll). "Akean’s performances on the field have been terrific throughout the season. He’s had a big impact around campus with his positive attitude and willingness to help," said head coach Jon Fridal." The All-American has maintained a remarkable 3.42 cumulative GPA in the classroom. Be sure to keep an eye out for Shackleford’s name as post-season honors are announced. Skackleford and the Warriors earned the #1 seed in the Region XI Tournament with their sights set on the 2017 NJCAA D1 National Tournament in Prescott, Arizona hosted by Yavapai College.
